~Cassy, for
the most part, is an intentional contrast to the overall mood that a majority
of the other characters take on-Fox in particular. Innately unconcerned and
all together oblivious to the presence of grave or pressing matters, she teases
his seriousness with superficial regard--or at least seemingly so. It's difficult
to imagine that there could be nothing deeper than simple innocence to someone
so capable of taking care of herself.
Her personality, sprightly and capricious, immediately fascinates Fox. She
is so detached from his reality that it's a welcome relief for him to be in
her presence. In this way, a rather one-sided relationship develops wherein
Fox has latched onto her childish charm to escape his own precocity, and she
goes about her life as if he weren't there. Ironically, in this way, the very
thing that initially drew Fox to Cassy also leaves a sizeable rift between
them.
